Quick answer
Chartering a private jet from the UK typically costs £2,800 to £7,800 per flying hour for light to super-midsize jets, based on 2025 and 2026 broker data. Turboprops start from about £1,600 an hour. Heavy and ultra-long-range jets cost £5,600 to £16,000 an hour. A one-way London to Nice light jet trip is often quoted at £9,000 to £14,000.
| Jet size | Seats | Typical hourly rate | Example trip: London to Nice one way (approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turboprop | 4 to 8 | £1,600 to £4,300 | Varies. Slower aircraft, so flight time is longer. |
| Very light jet | 4 to 6 | £2,800 to £4,500 | £5,600 to £9,000 |
| Light jet (incl. super-light) | 6 to 10 | £2,800 to £5,500 | £5,600 to £11,000 |
| Midsize jet | 7 to 9 | £4,400 to £7,100 | £8,800 to £14,200 |
| Super-midsize jet | 8 to 10 | £4,500 to £7,800 | £9,000 to £15,600 |
| Heavy jet | 8 to 16 | £5,600 to £11,000 | £11,200 to £22,000 |
| Ultra-long-range jet | 14 to 19 | £7,300 to £16,000 | Not a typical choice for this route |
Hourly rates combine LunaJets' 2025 booking data (converted to GBP on 7 Oct 2026) and Fliteline's 2026 UK rate guide (4 Aug 2026). Seat counts are from LunaJets. Example trips are about 2 hours of flying multiplied by the hourly rate, before positioning, fees and taxes. 1 2
How much does a private jet cost per hour?
A private jet costs about £1,600 to £16,000 per flying hour from the UK, depending on its size. Most UK trips use a light, midsize or super-midsize jet, which costs £2,800 to £7,800 an hour. You pay for the whole aircraft, not per seat. 1 2
£2,800 to £7,800
the typical hourly cost of a light to super-midsize jet from the UK in 2026. 1 2
The hourly rate is a starting point, not a final price. LunaJets says its rates cover the whole aircraft and that a final offer adds fuel surcharges, crew costs and landing and handling fees. Fliteline calls positioning "often the largest hidden variable". 1 2
How much does each size of private jet cost?
A very light jet costs £2,800 to £4,500 an hour, while a heavy jet costs £5,600 to £11,000 an hour. Bigger jets carry more people, fly further without stopping and have larger cabins. The right size is the smallest jet that fits your group, bags and range. 1 2
| Jet size | Example types | Hourly rate | Seats | Typical non-stop range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turboprop | Pilatus PC-12, King Air | £1,600 to £4,300 | 4 to 8 | Up to about 3 hours |
| Very light jet | Citation CJ2 to CJ4 (Fliteline groups very light and light) | £2,800 to £4,500 | 4 to 6 | Up to about 2 hours 30 |
| Light jet | Citation CJ2 to CJ4, Phenom 300 | £2,800 to £5,500 | 6 to 10 | About 2 hours 45 to 4 hours 30 |
| Midsize jet | Citation XLS | £4,400 to £7,100 | 7 to 9 | About 4 hours 30 to 5 hours 30 |
| Super-midsize jet | Challenger 350 | £4,500 to £7,800 | 8 to 10 | About 5 hours 30 to 6 hours 30 |
| Heavy jet | Challenger 650, Falcon 900, Gulfstream G450 | £5,600 to £11,000 | 8 to 16 | About 6 hours 30 to 10 hours |
| Ultra-long-range jet | Global 7500, Gulfstream G650 | £7,300 to £16,000 | 14 to 19 | About 10 to 14 hours |
Example types are from Fliteline (Aug 2026). Seats and range are from LunaJets' category guide (2026). Hourly rates combine both. 1 2
How much does a private jet cost per person?
Divide the full charter price by the number of passengers to get the cost per person. Eight people sharing a midsize jet to Nice at £8,800 to £14,200 pay about £1,100 to £1,775 each, before fees and taxes. The more seats you fill, the lower the cost per person. 1 2
£1,369
the cost per person when 13 passengers share LunaJets' £17,800 London to Nice guide price on an Embraer Legacy 650. 1
Remember to add Air Passenger Duty for each passenger leaving the UK. On a jet under 20 tonnes flying to Europe, that is usually £32 per person in 2026/27. On a jet of 20 tonnes or more, it is £142 per person. 3 7
Is a return trip cheaper than two one-way flights?
A same-day return is usually far cheaper than two separate one-way trips. Fliteline says this is because the aircraft does not reposition twice. A one-way trip often includes the cost of the jet flying back empty, unless the operator can match it with other demand. 2
| Trip type | What you pay for | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| One way | Your flight plus, often, the empty return or positioning leg | Single journeys, or when an empty leg matches your route |
| Same-day return | Both legs, with the jet waiting for you | Day trips and meetings |
| Multi-day return | Both legs, plus crew overnight costs or two positioning flights | Holidays and longer stays |
Based on Fliteline (Aug 2026) and Private Jets UK's list of crew overnight and positioning fees (2026). 2 11
How much is a private jet from London to popular destinations?
A one-way private jet from London costs about £2,800 to £11,000 to Paris and about £39,200 to £120,000 to Dubai or New York. The table below multiplies typical flight times by the hourly bands above. It is a guide to the flying cost only, not a quote.
| London to | Approx. flight time | Light jet (£2,800 to £5,500/hr) | Midsize (£4,400 to £7,100/hr) | Super-midsize (£4,500 to £7,800/hr) | Heavy (£5,600 to £11,000/hr) | Ultra-long-range (£7,300 to £16,000/hr) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paris | 1 hour | £2,800 to £5,500 | £4,400 to £7,100 | £4,500 to £7,800 | £5,600 to £11,000 | Not typical |

| Ibiza | 2 hours | £5,600 to £11,000 | £8,800 to £14,200 | £9,000 to £15,600 | £11,200 to £22,000 | Not typical |
| Dubai | 7 hours | Out of range | Out of range | Out of range non-stop | £39,200 to £77,000 | £51,100 to £112,000 |
| New York | 7 hours 30 | Out of range | Out of range | Out of range non-stop | £42,000 to £82,500 | £54,800 to £120,000 |
How we built this table: flight time × hourly band, rounded to the nearest £100. Flight times are rounded from LunaJets, Fliteline and Private Jets UK (2026). "Out of range" uses LunaJets' typical category ranges. Prices exclude positioning, fees, APD and VAT. 1 2 11
How much can you save with an empty leg?
An empty leg is typically 25% to 50% cheaper than an equivalent charter, according to Fliteline (Aug 2026). An empty leg is a flight the jet must make anyway, such as a return home after a one-way booking. LunaJets lists empty legs starting at €2,000. 1 2
Browse current empty leg flights to see what is available from UK airports.
What extra fees are added to a private jet quote?
A private jet quote adds positioning, airport, crew and tax costs to the hourly rate. Some brokers include them in one price. Others list them separately, so check every line before you pay. 1 2 11
Hidden costs
- Positioning: the cost of flying the jet to your departure airport and back. Fliteline calls it "often the largest hidden variable". 2
- Landing, parking and handling fees: these vary by airport and aircraft. 1 11
- Busy-airport and slot fees: some airports add a surcharge at peak times. 1 2
- Fuel surcharge: varies with aircraft, distance and the fuel market. 1
- Crew overnight costs: hotel, meals and allowances when the crew stays away. 1 11
- De-icing in winter: £500 to £2,000 per Private Jets UK, and up to £1,500 to £8,000 per departure per Fliteline, depending on aircraft and conditions. 2 11
- Catering beyond the standard offer: custom menus are charged extra. 2 11
- Peak-day premium: prices can lift 10% to 30% on peak days. 2
- UK Air Passenger Duty: charged per passenger leaving the UK. See the APD table below. 3
- VAT: UK domestic flights on aircraft with fewer than 10 seats are standard-rated at 20%. International flights are zero-rated for the UK part of the journey. 9 10
- French departure tax: Fliteline puts France's private jet passenger tax at €210 to €2,100 per passenger on flights leaving France, so check your return leg from Nice or Paris. 2
How much Air Passenger Duty do private jet passengers pay?
Private jet passengers pay £32 to £1,141 each in UK Air Passenger Duty in 2026/27, depending on distance and aircraft weight. The higher rate applies to jets of 20 tonnes or more with fewer than 19 seats. The Air Charter Association says jets below 20 tonnes generally pay the standard rate. 3 7
| Distance band (from London) | Example destinations | Standard rate, 1 Apr 2026 to 31 Mar 2027 | Higher rate, 1 Apr 2026 to 31 Mar 2027 | Higher rate from 1 Apr 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic | Edinburgh, Manchester | £16 | £142 | £146.63 |
| Band A (0 to 2,000 miles) | Paris, Geneva, Nice, Ibiza | £32 | £142 | £146.63 |
| Band B (2,001 to 5,500 miles) | Dubai, New York | £244 | £1,097 | £1,132.76 |
| Band C (over 5,500 miles) | Further long-haul | £253 | £1,141 | £1,178.20 |

APD only applies to aircraft of 5.7 tonnes or more. Ask your broker whether a very light jet falls under that weight for your trip. 8
Is it cheaper to buy a private jet, charter one or use a jet card?
Chartering is usually cheaper for occasional flyers because you pay only for the trips you take. Buying a light jet costs about £3.5 million to £5 million, and Multiflight puts total ownership costs at £1 million to £4 million or more a year (Jan 2025). Jet cards sit in between, with a pre-paid balance and fixed hourly rates. 12 13
| Option | What it costs | What you get | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-demand charter | £1,600 to £16,000 per flying hour, plus fees 1 2 | Pay per trip, any jet size | Prices change with demand and positioning |
| Jet card | North American average of $10,958 per hour in Q3 2026; light jets average $8,333 12 | Fixed hourly rates and guaranteed availability | Daily minimums of about 79 to 120 minutes; peak-day rules 12 |
| Full ownership | Light jet £3.5m to £5m; midsize £6m to £9m; large £30m to £50m to buy 13 | Total control of the aircraft | Insurance £50,000 to £200,000 a year; management £50,000 to £200,000 a year 13 |
Why do private jet prices vary so much?
Private jet prices vary because of positioning, demand, season and airport costs, not just distance. Fliteline says peak days can lift prices by 10% to 30%. It names summer weekends to Nice and ski-season Saturdays to Geneva as the busiest. 2
What moves the price
- Where the nearest suitable jet is parked (positioning). 2
- Peak dates, summer weekends and ski season. 2
- One way vs return, and how long the jet waits. 2
- The airports you use: landing, handling and slot fees differ. 1 2
- Fuel prices, passed on as a surcharge. 1
- Winter conditions that need de-icing. 2 11
- How far ahead you book. LunaJets bases its route guide prices on quotes 10 days before departure. 1
How do you get an accurate private jet quote?
You get an accurate quote by giving a broker or operator your exact route, dates, times, passenger numbers and luggage. Then ask for an all-in price that lists every fee and tax. Compare at least two quotes for the same jet size. 1 2
- 1
Estimate your trip in the cost calculator so you know a fair range before you ask.
- 2
Pick the smallest jet size that fits your group, bags and route.
- 3
Send your exact airports, dates, times and passenger count to two or three providers.
- 4
Ask for an all-in quote that shows positioning, fees, APD and VAT.
- 5
Ask for the name of the operator that will fly the aircraft. The CAA says you have a right to know it. 14
- 6
Check that operator holds a UK Air Operator Certificate (AOC) on the CAA's published list before you pay. 14
- 7
Read the cancellation and payment terms, then confirm in writing.
Something most cost guides skip: check the operator, not just the price
Most cost guides stop at the hourly rate. The cheapest quote is only good value if a properly certified operator flies the jet. Before you pay, look the operator up in our operators directory, then confirm its AOC on the CAA's list. 14
