Finding empty leg flights in the UK
An empty leg is a repositioning sector that an aircraft needs to fly without its original charter passengers. It might return to base after dropping them off or move to another airport for its next booking. A provider may offer that sector to another traveller, subject to its operational and commercial conditions. A route shown in a guide is not evidence of a flight for sale.
Why the price can be different
Some positioning costs may already form part of the primary charter's economics, so a provider may accept a lower price for a sector that would otherwise fly empty. There is no fixed discount or guaranteed saving. Airports, times, aircraft and booking conditions matter. Compare the complete price, including any airport fees and applicable taxes, rather than an unsourced percentage off a hypothetical standard fare.
A bespoke charter can be the better fit if your date or destination is essential. Our charter cost calculator and private jet cost guide explain an occupied-flight-hour budget, not an empty-leg offer. We never turn a modelled range into pretend available inventory.
How to find an opportunity that fits
- Search current listings, then check the departure and arrival airports, date window, seating, baggage and whether the price covers the aircraft or a different arrangement.
- Allow alternatives in your travel plans. A nearby airport or a different departure window can matter more than finding the exact city pair.
- Set an alert for your preferred route. Registering interest does not reserve a flight, guarantee a match or replace checking with the provider.
- Confirm the operating carrier, actual aircraft, complete price and written change/cancellation terms before paying anyone.
Cancellation risk: the main charter comes first
If the primary charter changes, the aircraft may no longer need to reposition on the advertised route or date. Your empty leg can be moved or cancelled even after you have planned around it. Ask what refund is due, whether a substitute flight is promised and who pays for replacement transport or accommodation. Do not assume another jet will be supplied at the same price.
For an immovable meeting, wedding or connection, make a realistic alternative plan. A cheap one-way opportunity does not establish a return flight. Check both directions separately and avoid non-refundable onward arrangements until you understand the contract.
UK airports to include in your research
Farnborough Airport describes its business-aviation role, while London Biggin Hill Airport describes itself as a dedicated business-aviation airport. They are examples of UK airports to discuss with a provider when considering repositioning opportunities, not a claim of current availability or measured empty-leg frequency. Official airport websites checked on 5 November 2026.
Ask about handling, slots, customs, opening hours and ground transfers for the actual journey. An airport's business-aviation facilities do not guarantee acceptance of your aircraft or itinerary. Explore the London airport guide and UK empty-leg listings and alerts.
Providers: submit real sectors only
Submit an empty leg with the real airports, date window, aircraft information and commercial terms. Keep details current and withdraw a sector when it is no longer available. Publication and an enquiry are not a completed booking.
